For a few years, surgery of the gluteus has become more and more popular. In this retrospective study of 50 cases over a period of five years, the author presents his results, using a personal technique of gluteoplasty with intramuscular implants. After a review of the different current surgical techniques and of the different types of gluteus, the author describes his own surgical strategy.

Dr Horn has been practising plastic and aesthetic surgery for 25 years.
Dr Horn has been filmed by the BBC, for the Plastic Fantastic series. In 2003, Dr Horn designed the world’s first pectoral implant, which is now used internationally. He is on the specialist registrar of the British General Medical Council, as a plastic surgeon. Dr Horn was trained in Paris (Hospital Saint Louis and Hospital Saint Antoine) and graduated as a specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic surgery in 1988. He has a plastic surgery practice in London, Paris and Brussels.
Dr Horn is a member of the French Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (Sofcpre); a member of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), and a member of the British Association of Cosmetic Surgeons (BACS).

Women seek to mould a larger look.
“The demand is huge,” confirms Dr Gary Horn, of the Harley Buttock Clinic, an augmentation specialist. Surgery, fillers and implants on bottoms have accounted for one of the fastest-growing types of cosmetic surgery in the US for the past two years, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Bums are, literally, a growth market. Each week at Horn’s central London practice 15 to 20 women inquire about procedures to transfer fat from their stomachs and have it pumped into their bottoms. Silicone implants and non-surgical hyaluronic acid injections are also more common. “Five years ago, everyone wanted liposuction to remove saddlebags, now [they] want volume on their hips and buttocks. It’s definitely a fashion and media thing – and it’s going up,” says Horn.
Bigger bottoms, hips and thighs are now in vogue, meaning more time at the gym for some women.
